Yesterday, Telegram launched its in-app browser and mini-app store, natively integrating support for crypto.

What's the scoop?

  • In-App Browser: Telegram's latest update adds an in-app browser supporting decentralized websites, called TON TON Sites, and a mini-app store.
  • Mini-App Payment System: The update also includes the ability for users to send Stars, used for mini-app payments, to friends.
  • Enhanced Mini-App Store: Improvements to the mini-app store include enhanced search options, app previews, and sharing mini apps in Stories.

Bankless Take:

Telegram’s latest update solidifies and enhances its connection to crypto, natively integrating the decentralized web into an app with nearly one billion users. The mini-app store will add more discoverability for Telegram-based apps, increasing their reach and giving non-crypto natives a way to explore Web3. Further, with support for crypto in its browser, Telegram has effectively become a Web3 super-app, bringing crypto features directly to one of its largest social hubs.
