Swell Joins the Superchain Ecosystem

Swell chooses Optimism's Superchain as it moves away from Polygon CDK plans.

Swell Swell has decided to transition from the Polygon Polygon CDK to the OP Stack. The project recently announced on Twitter that it will migrate to Optimism, a significant shift that marks a major loss for Polygon. 

What’s the Scoop?:

  • Migration Announcement: Swell’s primary motivation for migrating to Optimism Optimism is to become the primary restaking hub for the Superchain Ecosystem. While this is a strong incentive, there may be additional factors at play.
  • Another Win for the Optimism Team: Optimism has been making strategic moves to onboard significant players into the Superchain Ecosystem. With Swell now in the mix and over ~$1B being migrated to the Superchain Ecosystem, this is another huge pickup for the Optimism team. 

Bankless Take:

Swell’s entry into the Superchain Ecosystem could set the stage for other L2s to follow suit. With seamless interoperability to prominent chains like Base, OP Mainnet, and soon Unichain and Ink, it’s a compelling move. Though unconfirmed, it also would be unsurprising if the Optimism team gave a substantial grant to the Swell team to help them transition to the Superchain Ecosystem.
