Solana Solana released its new primitive, blinks (blockchain links), that transforms onchain actions into shareable links.

What’s the scoop?

  • Versatile Sharing: Blinks enable Solana actions to be initiated on any website or app, wherever a link can be shared, allowing people to mint NFTs directly from their X feeds for example.
  • Ease of Use: Solana Actions APIs simplify signing and sending transactions through native app buttons, QR codes, and shareable blinks.
  • Key Development: Built with Dialect, a develop-centric startup, blinks are already compatible with Phantom, Backpack, and Solflare and can be enabled through each wallet’s “settings.”

Bankless Take

While similar features have been built in the past, Solana’s popularity and the native integration with leading wallets — to avoid downloading another extension — sets blinks up to potentially have a significant impact. While it will certainly increase memecoin degeneration, blinks could also go a long way to merging Web2 and Web3, making crypto a near-native feature of the internet rather than an additional layer that needs to be accessed through specific interfaces or sites.
