Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler will relinquish his position and step down from the Commission effective January 20, 2025.

What's the scoop?

  • Resignation Notice: SEC Chair Gensler, a figurehead in the assault against digital assets issuers who has seemingly prevented the crypto clarity with respect to securities regulations, has announced his intention to vacate the Commission once the incoming Trump Administration is sworn in.

Bankless take:

Crypto investors have become invigorated with hope that the election of an auspiciously pro-crypto Donald Trump Donald Trump and Republican Congress will finally provide the industry with regulatory clarity; Gensler's impending resignation should enable President Trump to appoint at least one new SEC commissioner and follow through on campaign promises.
