Optimism developers have announced a roadmap to introduce native interoperability across L2s in the Superchain, such as OP Mainnet, Zora, and Base.

We'll be bringing a unified experience for transferring assets, building apps, and UX with chains or apps across the Superchain.
What's the scoop?
- Addressing Fragmentation: This interoperability would address current fragmentation by enabling seamless asset and user portability across these networks.
- Key Features: The plan includes introducing a message-passing protocol, a universal token standard (SuperchainERC20), and a fault-proof system for secure asset transfers.

Given the dominance of Superchain L2s across the 
Ethereum ecosystem, Optimism's push towards interoperability could significantly strengthen not only the L2 landscape by simplifying user experiences and enhancing asset portability, but also provide them a strong competitive edge against others like 
Arbitrum and 
Polygon — the latter of which is building their own aggregation layer. This could slash cross-chain friction, making the Optimism ecosystem even more attractive to developers and users alike. However, the execution of this will be critical, especially in ensuring the fault-proof system delivers on its promise of secure transfers.
