Back in late July 2024, the Base Base team announced they would launch fault proofs on the Sepolia testnet. Now, they're preparing to bring them to the Base mainnet.

What’s the Scoop?

  • Major Milestone for Base: Base continues to dominate the L2 space with one of the highest TVLs, and now, the upcoming launch of fault proofs brings the network closer to full decentralization.
  • What’s Next? Although there’s no official announcement, it's likely the Base team is already working on “Stage 2 – No Training Wheels,” the next step toward decentralizing Base. While “Stage 1 – Limited Training Wheels” rolled out fairly quickly, fully decentralizing Base will still be a tough challenge.

Bankless Take:

Some might overlook this upgrade, but it’s a significant achievement in the crypto space. Fault proofs enable users to challenge any claim, a feature currently only live on Arbitrum Arbitrum and OP Mainnet. With fault proofs, Base is proving to be ahead of the game in the optimistic rollup space.
