Chainlink oracles are coming to Bitcoin thanks to a new integration with the Spiderchain L2.

Chainlink, the go-to oracle provider for many major blockchains, has expanded to Bitcoin for the first time by integrating with the Bitcoin Bitcoin Layer 2 network Spiderchain.

What’s the scoop?

  • Joining Forces: Botanix Labs, the builder behind Spiderchain, has joined Chainlink’s Scale program, giving Spiderchain access to Chainlink’s oracle services and its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP).
  • Smart Contracts on Bitcoin: While Bitcoin historically lacked support for L2s, smart contracts, and rollups, Spiderchain aims to bridge that gap by making Bitcoin compatible with Ethereum Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) layers, allowing Ethereum-based applications to easily run atop Bitcoin.

Bankless Take:

Chainlink Chainlink is the most battle-tested oracle solution in crypto, and now that robustness is coming to the Bitcoin ecosystem. There are various ways to approach building a Bitcoin L2, but this integration with Spiderchain will further open the door for more complex apps atop the OG blockchain. Plus, as cross-chain protocols like CCIP continue to grow, Bitcoin’s potential to interact with Ethereum’s rich ecosystem could make for an increasingly teeming cryptoeconomy.
